I already knew the perils of arriving too late to the Underworld after shooting Sum 41 here in February. There’s no photo pit so you’re limited to shooting from the mosh (and with BTBAM there’s a LOT of that) and you need to arrive well before the doors open. I arrived about 30 minutes before [...]
Rounding off the festival season near Tamworth for Capital Radio at Ultrasound Festival. Capital were one of the headline sponsors of the event and were interviewing many of the acts during the day, which had me running between interviews, live performances and editing on the fly. Mind-blowing moment of the season came when I was [...]
It’s the amazing Deftones, again!
A foray into the world of what festivals would be like if Topshop sold them. V was one of the busiest events I’ve worked this summer, having been given a pretty long list of essential and desirable acts to photograph across three stages. I wasn’t one of the three photographers on the list for Eminem [...]
One of my most valuable anecdotes is the one from when I toured with Peter Andre in early 2010. My ears are still ringing from the screams of tweenagers. Still it was nice to see some familiar faces at Crealy Rocks (which happens to be in my homeland of Devon), including a couple of the [...]
A quick jaunt up to the Essex countryside for this one. Only three photographers in the pit, a low stage and The Saturdays. Worst thing about the gig was that the tour t-shirts didn’t go past a Medium. I was looking forward to wearing a Saturdays tee to the next gig I shoot for Rock [...]
The season of pop continues. I learnt how to shoot live music through photographing rock and metal bands in low/poor lighting and then progressed. Although it’s quite far from my roots, covering acts like Alexandra Burke is always a nice change because I know the lighting will be spot on and I can have more [...]
I’ve always been really rubbish at action sports like BMXing, Skatboarding, Rollerblading and stuff like that, but I’ve been really good at sitting down and watching them on TV. This time, I got to watch these sports for real while at Relentless NASS shooting the music. It was a really diverse lineup, which explains why [...]
I never turn down an opportunity to photograph a band whose frontman has two full stops in the middle of his name. Especially when it’s at a theme park. And also when all the Peas wear shiny stuff. Awesome combo.
A blisteringly hot day at Chester Racecourse for the first ever Chester Rocks was definitely a reminder that I need to keep some suncream in my bag when shooting outdoor events! My neck got a lanyard tan/burn from my photo pass, much to the amusement of everyone who saw me the next day. The whole [...]
Sometimes I can’t believe what I’m writing when I name a new folder to organise the live shots of bands I’ve photographed. It’s getting more and more frequent, but stand-out buzz moments have definitely been naming folders ‘Rage Against The Machine’, ‘Tom Jones’ and today ‘Bon Jovi.’ It takes me back to when I was [...]
So to round off my JLS hat-trick, I’m in Staffordshire for Alton Towers Live, which also hosts The Saturdays, McFly, Eliza Doolittle and newcomer Charlotte O’Connor. It’s also the first event in three days with nice weather all day, which is definitely a welcome change!
After the massive mess caused by the traffic in Winchester, I left home extra early to get to Swindon in time for the gates to open and shoot all the atmosphere and support acts. I actually had no traffic problems at all, giving me more than four hours to kill until the show actually started. [...]
Oddly enough I’ve scored a hat-trick of JLS shows this weekend, and Winchester’s Matterley Bowl was the first on my list. The show sounded and looked great – JLS put on a great live performance (they also love playing up to the camera, which is great for me!) It’s a shame though that it was [...]
Alright, so although the weather was kind on the first day of the festival, the same can’t be said for the second. Ironically enough, the 10 solid minutes of ridiculously heavy torrential rain came just as I was buying an ice-cream (in between working extremely hard, obviously!) Good excuse to pop into the tent then, [...]
